NBA Bargains 1/11/17

We have reached mid-week and have a six-game slate at hand, with some bargain plays that can open up some salary relief in order to fit in some of the high-end expensive players in good spots. It is worth noting that due to this being a smaller slate, there is not a ton of value to consider, so some of the players listed below are a little pricier than we normally target. That being said, let’s jump right into it and go over some of tonight’s bargains.

POINT GUARD

Patrick Beverley – Beverley has been playing through a sore wrist and has been subpar in his last two games. There is definitely risk in rostering Beverley, but on a six-game slate, if you are looking for value he makes a ton of sense. He has displayed his ability to score over 40 fantasy points numerous times and his peripheral stats boost his ceiling and floor. He did struggled against them in their last matchup, but the Timberwolves rank 24th in defense efficiency.

T.J. McConnell – Despite Sergio Rodriguez returning from injury, McConnell started in Sunday’s game against the Nets and played 36 minutes. He is expected to start once again in tonight’s contest and faces a Knicks team that is ranked 26th in defense efficiency. In his last four games, he is averaging over 35 minutes and 30 fantasy points per game. Assuming he plays over 30 minutes, McConnell should have no problem paying off his salary.

SHOOTING GUARDS

Courtney Lee – Lee is very hit or miss, but he does play consistent minutes. Prior to the last two games where he played 28 minutes in each of those contests, he played at least 34 minutes in four straight. Tonight, he faces off against Philadelphia who is giving up 22.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.7 steals, and 2.7 three-pointers per game to opposing shooting guards. At his price, there is no reason to think he does no pay off his salary in this matchup.

SMALL FORWARD

Robert Covington – Covington is much more appealing on FanDuel due to his price compared to what it is on DraftKings. He faces off against the Knicks who are giving up the 10th most fantasy points per game during their last five and rank 26th in defense efficiency. There is no doubt that Covington is volatile, ranging from 15 to 40 fantasy points in his last five games. However, he does play big minutes and offers plenty of upside.

Otto Porter – Much like Covington, Porter is cheaper on FanDuel, but is still affordable on DraftKings. He has played well in recent games, averaging 13.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists, two blocks, 1.8 steals, and over 30 fantasy points per game during his last four. Tonight he faces a Boston defense that is giving up the seventh most fantasy points per game to opposing small forwards. The last time that he faced them, he scored a season-high 34 points, with a season-high 14 rebounds, four assists, three steals, and three blocks, which was good for over 60 fantasy points.

POWER FORWARD

Al-Farouq Aminu – Aminu has been playing well from a fantasy perspective over his last four games. During that stretch, he is averaging 33.5 minutes, 10.8 points, 10.3 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.3 blocks, one steal, and over 30 fantasy points per game. On sites such as DraftKings, he has actually scored at least 30 fantasy points in each of the last four games. The matchup in itself is not appealing, but you cannot ignore his minutes and production as of late, as well as the fact that he is still very cheap across the industry.

CENTER

Marcin Gortat – Gortat recorded his 22nd double-double in last night’s game and is all but a lock for a double-double tonight. Boston is giving up the fourth most rebounds per game with a -4.4 differential. They are also surrendering the seventh most fantasy points and 15.4 rebounds per game to opposing centers. Gortat is playing big minutes for the Wizards and is a model of consistency from a fantasy standpoint. He offers safe floor and has flashed his 40+ fantasy point upside plenty of times this season.
