NBA Bargains –1/2/17

With all of the NFL money back in play and most everyone having a day off from work, the sites are running some very large contests today, so let’s see what sort of differentiation discount plays we can find.

As always, more information will be released by the teams closer to tip-off, but this should give us plenty of discounted options to work with in the meantime.

If you have any questions you can reach me on Twitter @EmacDFS or in the FanVice.com premium Slack channel.

Point Guards

Austin Rivers – LAC vs PHO – With all of the injuries that the Clippers have been dealing with, Rivers continues to see steady minutes and has actually been playing relatively well with the exception of getting ejected on Friday and a dud game on Saturday against the Thunder.  This has helped keep his price tag in check and he is a fine option again for all formats tonight against Phoenix.  Teammate Raymond Felton is also an option, particularly if Chris Paul is out again with his strained hamstring.

Michael Carter-Williams – CHI vs CHA – With Rajon Rondo having already worn out his welcome in the Windy City and asking for a trade, we can look to former Rookie of the Year, Michael Carter-Williams as a discount dandy tonight.  Keep expectations in check, after all he was acquired by the Bulls for Tony Snell, but in the NBA minutes are the currency of the realm and MCW should be in line for 25ish as long as he remains the starter.

Malcolm Brogdon – MIL vs OKC – The former University of Virginia star rolled up his first career triple double on Saturday against the Bulls and he has tallied 32+ fantasy points in three of his last six games.  He is eligible at both guard positions depending on your site of choice and he is very much in play against the Thunder tonight.

Shooting Guard

Gary Harris and Will Barton – DEN at GSW – This duo is in the game with the highest projected point total (230) and they are a discounted way to gain access to the available fantasy goodness that occurs when teams play Golden State.  I would not play both in the same lineup since for whatever reason they usually do not both have good games at the same time, but I would be comfortable with either one filling the pesky shooting guard position.

Rodney Hood – UTA at BKN – Hood’s price is still down after he missed a couple games and had to work his way back into shape after a prolonged bout with an illness.  He is heavily points dependent for his production, but targeting players going against the Brooklyn Nets has been a lucrative move this season.

Small Forward

Wilson Chandler – DEN at GSW – Chandler pulls the occasional disappearing act in games, but the talent is undeniable as he makes regular forays into the 30+ fantasy point territory.  Tournaments only, but he is so often overlooked by most daily fantasy gamers he is almost a contrarian option.

Otto Porter – WAS at HOU – If Bradley Beal misses another game with his lower leg issues, Porter is an outstanding option in this pace up game that has a projected 229 points.  He should see plenty of action as one of the Wizards who will be tasked with taking a turn at guarding James Harden.

Power Forward

Taj Gibson – CHI vs CHA – While Gibson typically does not have a high upside, he is a solid building block, particularly when his price dips into the mid $4k range.  The Bulls will need him to bang with the Charlotte BIGs in the paint and he should see his usual 27-30 minutes and score 20-25 fantasy points.

Derrick Favors – UTA at BKN – Favors is at this low price point because the Jazz are easing him back into action after he has been plagued with knee issues.  He should see close to 25 minutes tonight and he could conceivably flirt with a double double against the weak frontcourt of the team that drafted him.

Marreese Speights – LAC vs PHO – Gimme some Mo’!  Speights has been a solid option with Blake Griffin out of action and he should be good for 25 fantasy points in this matchup with 40 fantasy point upside if everything goes his way.

Center

Bismack Biyombo – ORL at NYK – Biyombo is at a great price point if we are looking to punt at the center position and while he is not much for scoring, he does have value with his rebounding and shot blocking skills (he had a season high five in his last meeting with the Knicks).

Montrezl Harrell – HOU vs WAS – Harrell continues to be an option with Clint Capela out of action for a couple more weeks.  While he does tend to fade into the background on offense, he still produces enough in the other categories that he should be in the mix for 20-25 fantasy points most nights and he did have a career high 29 points on Friday against the Clippers, so perhaps he will be able to build upon that.
